mini scleral contact lenses
Since 2005 we have been using a newly designed rigid contact lens further developed by John for keratoconic, post graft and trauma patients. For specialty use the Mini-Scleral is now becoming popular World-Wide. For 3 years John personally wore these lenses every day, all day. It is a much larger contact lens, which does not touch the sensitive cornea and is therefore VERY COMFORTABLE. Most patients are achieving superb comfort and vision. We will teach you how to handle these larger lenses. It is not difficult to quickly learn the skills. Their greater size means they will never just "pop" out of the eye like smaller corneal lenses. Therefore, it is OK to shower, swim and participate in all activities and sporting events. They will not dislodge with swimming / surfing / water skiing and will not give grit or dust problems AT ALL. They can usually be worn for up to12 hours/day maximum. They can last about 2 - 3 years before needing replacement. John can also adjust and repolish mini scleral contact lenses to achieve the optimal fit and remove fine scratches and deposits which build up over time with normal wear.
