Let's face it, nobody likes to pay for insurance and that feeling is compounded when you are paying premiums and not claiming rebates. If you have private health insurance for optical you are allocated an annual allowance to put towards supplies like frames, prescription lenses and contact lenses. If you don't claim this annual allowance, it simply goes down the gurgler and a starts afresh for the next 12 month period. IT DOES NOT ACCUMULATE.
So, if your health fund benefits roll over at the end of the calender year, USE THEM! Get in before December 31st and order yourself a new pair of prescription glasses or another supply of contact lenses. In some cases there is little to no out-of-pocket expense.
